A massive blaze Notre Dame cathedral in Paris devastated large parts of the 850-year-old church on Monday evening (15th April 2019) and burned for several hours. While the fire is now under control, the cathedral’s iconic spire fell during the hours it took to battle the blaze with the destruction of its roof structure. Notre Dame was built in the 13th century (construction began in 1163 and was completed in 1345), the medieval structure is considered a feat of architecture as much as a religious symbol. It is one of Paris’ most popular attractions, drawing an estimated 13 million visitors a year.
