Fire resistant doorset

Fire resistant doorset is part of fire-rated compartment to facilitate traffic between two rooms or two floors.

It functions to reduce the spread of fire or smoke between compartments and to enable safe egress from building or structure. The door leaf is installed into a fire-rated frame, complete with its ‘essential ironmongery’ to make the door perform correctly in the event of a fire. The door is tested as a complete assembly or doorset, and can only work correctly if installed using the same compatible/ approved components as when it was tested i.e. automatic closers, handles, locksets, etc. As a certified fire resistant doorset, it must be self-closing and self-latching as a requirement under all Building Regulations. Test fire doorsets shall be manufacture under ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 and needs to be listed for quality assurance purpose.

As a certified fire resistant doorset, it must be self-closing and self-latching as stated under Uniform Building By-law 1984 (2012 Amendment) or any Building Regulation. It shall always be listed under SIRIM Product Certification Scheme and tested under MS1073:Part 3:1996 (20o3 Amendment) or any relevant or International Standards.

For Malaysian market, fire resistant doorsets shall be design, tested and installed according to following Malaysian Standards:-

  • MS 1073: Part 2:1996 Specification for fire resistant doorsets Part 2: Methods for determination of the fire resistance – General principles
  • MS 1073: Part 3:1996 S: PART 3: Specification for fire resistant doorsets Part 2: Methods for determination of the fire resistance – Type of doorsets
  • MS 1073: Part 3:1996 (AMD.1:2003) Specification for fire resistant doorsets Part 3 : Methods for determination of the fire resistance -Type of doorsets
  • MS 1601-4:2009 Specification for fire resistant doorsets Part 4: Methods for determination the performance of mortice lockset
  • MS 1601-3:2009 Specification for fire resistant doorsets Part 3: Code of practice for installation of fire resistant doorsets
  • MS 1601: Part 6:2007 Specification for fire resistant doorsets Part 6: Requirements and methods for determination the performance of controlled door closer devices
  • MS 1601: PART 9:2007 Specification for fire resistant doorsets Part 9: Requirements and methods for determination the performance of fire door coordinator devices
  • MS 1601-1:2009 Specification for fire resistant doorsets Part 1: Design requirements and variation from the tested specimen
